The 61st edition of the traditional athletics meeting in Ostrava will take place on Tuesday 31 May. The first foreign superstar that should draw crowds to the stands is the Italian high jump showman Gianmarco Tamberi. This will be his third appearance in Ostrava where his best achievement has been the third place from 2020 so far. The Italian made history when he agreed to share the most valuable medal with his rival from Qatar at the Tokyo Olympics. He is taking his preparation for the summer season extremely seriously and before the Ostrava meet he will already have appeared at the Diamond League in Doha and Brimingham.

The best Czech high jumpers: Jan Štefela, European champion under 23, and the national champion Marek Bahník will not be missing. The Oceania record holder and number five from the last Olympic Games Brandon Starc of Australia (236 cm) and another Olympic finalist Tom Gale of Great Britain with his personal best of 233 cm will be another high jump competition highlights.
Golden Spike in Ostrava retains a high reputation throughout the athletics world. In 2021, it featured 13 athletes who later became Olympic medallists in individual sports. This year Golden Spike will be broadcast to 140 countries worldwide.
As the details of and preparations for the Golden Spike are being fine-tuned and finalized, the opening rounds of the Chocolate Spike have already been underway.
