The UniCredit Czech Open in Prostějov has long been the biggest men's clay challenger in the Czech Republic. It will be traditionally held during the second week of Roland Garros, with no restrictions this time.

The event will take place in the Moravia National Tennis Centre from 29 May to 4 June. The still preliminary starting list includes two former champions Pablo Andújar of Spain and Federico Coria of Argentina, as well as Alex Molčan, Norbert Gombos, Andrej Martin and Filip Horanský of Slovakia. Czech tennis will be represented by Jiří Lehečka, Zdeněk Kolář, Tomáš Macháč, Vít Kopřiva, Dalibor Svrčina and, last but not least,  the three-time winner Jiří Veselý who is the only one who can become the four-time champion. Radek Štěpánek and Jan Hájek also lifted the trophy three times, but they have already retired from their active careers.

What’s new after the four years? The traditional partner of the Prostejov tournament, UniCredit Bank, returns to the scene.

"I think the connection between the Czech Open and UniCredit Bank is great. We definitely want to support sport even during these difficult times. The connection of our brand and tennis is very prestigious for us and I believe it will also be very interesting for the crowd. It will result in an interesting tennis event in the Czech Republic. Our bank is a reminder of the federal times as it operates in both Czech and Slovak markets. From this perspective, this connection and the opportunity to see the best Czech and Slovak  players is perfectly in line with the our tennis journey," said Jakub Dusílek, Chairman of the Board and CEO of UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia, at the press conference.
What did Miroslav Černošek, the head of Prostejov tennis, have to say? "This press conference is a matter of the heart for me. I’ve spent almost all my tennis years with Živnostenská banka and later with Unicredit Bank. I am glad that we have returned to the name UniCredit Czech Open. In addition to interesting foreign tennis stars, the tournament will also feature representatives of the Slovak and Czech Davis Cup teams, which is certainly interesting given the UniCredit Bank's operation in both republics."
After two editions of the tournament which were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisers are looking forward to this year which should be free of any restrictions. "The qualification will start on Sunday 29 May and will see 24 players, six of whom will advance to the main competition," said tournament director Petra Černošková. "The main competition will start on Monday, May 30. Tuesday will have the busiest schedule as doubles will begin."The doubles will culminate on Friday, June 3 and the singles final is  scheduled for Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m. The winner of this year's championship will be awarded EUR 90,280 and 100 ATP points. "I am really glad that we can once again hold the accompanying events, invite the crowd and have full stands," says Petra Černošková who has been the tournament director for the twenty-fourth time. The accompanying programme will include the traditional UniCredit Bank Children's Day which will take place on the Prostějov’s main square on 1 June.
