21.09.2026 | Strong Prostějov Presence in Czech Davis Cup Final 8 Qualification
The Czech Davis Cup team came through a dramatic tie against the United States, winning 3–2 to secure a place among the world’s top eight teams. Players closely connected with Prostějov tennis played a major role in the national team’s success.
One of the heroes of the tie in Prague was Jakub Menšík. After losing to Learner Tien on Friday, he produced an excellent comeback on Saturday against world No. 4 Ben Shelton. Menšík won 5–7, 6–4, 6–3 to level the tie at 2–2 and keep the Czech team’s hopes of qualification alive.
The decisive point was then delivered by Jiří Lehečka, who defeated Learner Tien 6–3, 7–5. Lehečka had already contributed a point on Friday, when he also beat Shelton in straight sets. He therefore won both of his singles matches over the course of the weekend and became one of the key figures in the Czech victory.
Another player with strong ties to Prostějov tennis, Adam Pavlásek, featured in the doubles. Together with Patrik Rikl, he battled for almost three hours against Christian Harrison and Austin Krajicek. The Czech pair had several match points but eventually suffered a narrow 7–5, 3–6, 6–7 defeat.
The Czech team’s leadership also has a strong Prostějov connection. The national team captain is Tomáš Berdych, a product of the Prostějov tennis club and a former long-time member of the world’s elite.
Following their victory over the United States, the Czech Republic qualified for the Davis Cup Final 8, which will take place in Bologna, Italy, from 24 to 29 November.
The national team’s success once again underlined the important role Prostějov continues to play at the highest level of Czech tennis.
